Fadeke Banjo is an award-winning multi-media Journalist, writer, and digital storyteller, with 4+ years creating engaging digital content for non-traditional new media. Currently working as a content creator for Global Citizen, where she has written 50 articles covering various topics such as human rights violations, pop culture, representation in the media, climate change, and gender equality and has featured in educational short-form videos on Global Citizen's Instagram account.

Specializing in human interest stories and pop culture, Fadeke's bylines include: Global Citizen, Unearthed - Greenpeace, PWR magazine, GROWN Magazine, Awallprints Magazine, and many more, her work continues to inspire a new generation of creatives.

She’s interviewed an array of A-list talent, including Michaela Coel, Danielle Isalie, Saint Joshua, and former 'Love Island' contestant Leanne Amaning.

In 2023, Fadeke won the prestigious Steve Connor Award for Investigative Science Journalism, presented by the Association of British Science Writers. This recognition was bestowed upon her for her remarkable collaboration on an investigative article that shed light on the extensive burning occurring on England's protected peatlands, in defiance of a government prohibition. The use of satellite imagery played a crucial role in uncovering this alarming phenomenon.

How I Work

My services include:

Fadeke has a desire to partake in investigative journalism & create and feature in her own documentaries one day.

Fadeke also values her faith and has been active within her church community; she also values diversity and inclusion within the workplace on all levels (particularly within the journalism industry, where it has been found an unrepresentative of black journalists in the UK).

This Fijian Climate Justice Activist is Taking Climate Change to The World’s Highest Court

This is a written interview article I wrote for Global Citizen on Climate Justice Activist Vishal Prasad from Fiji. Vishal is Director of the Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change, a group of young climate activist from Pacific Islands. In March 2019, the group launched a campaign named "Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change (PISFCC)" to urge the Pacific Island Forum leaders to take up the issue of climate change and human rights with the ICJ. In 2022, the group successfully secured support from Vanuatu and other Pacific nations to request an opinion from the ICJ on climate change. The campaign also gained support from 1,700 civil society groups across 130 countries, as well as support from governments around the world.

Interview article with Actor Michaela Coel written for Global Citizen. We sat down with the multi-talented actor, poet, writer, and Marvel universe character, for an exclusive interview about her poem, what love means to her, the fight for gender equality, and how storytelling and poetry are a powerful tool to address social issues and envision a better tomorrow. On Sept. 24, 2022, actor, director, singer, poet, and award-winning playwright, Michaela Coel, took to the Global Citizen Festival: Accra stage in Ghana, the country her parents were born. It was a night to remember with performances from Usher, Gyakie, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Stormzy, SZA, TEMS, and Uncle Waffles, as part of a campaign culminating in $2.4 billion to end extreme poverty.
Coel stood on the Black Star Square stage before over 20,000 Global Citizens to wow them with a poem about love.

Satellites reveal widespread burning on England’s protected peatlands, despite government ban

In 2022 I was a Data processor for an investigative piece looking at the illegal burning of England’s protected Peatlands which lead to a launching of a government investigation of the issue. This piece got nominated/ won the Steve Connor Award for Investigative Science Journalism at the Association on British Science Writers awards 2023.
